Grenson - Great British Brogues

I have fallen in love with Grenson shoes. Having had a brogue fetish for some time and sadly never owning a pair I will be treating myself to one of these lovely creations from Grenson's at some point soon I hope!  The Northamptonshire Grenson factory have been in business since 1874. It is a British brand with real heritage and buying British manufactured goods ticks one of my sustainable boxes. Supporting our economy while at the same time saving on carbon fuel with zero air miles makes the Grenson shoe in part a justifiable purchase. Hmm but with such gorgeous options I am spoilt for choice! I've been in touch with Grenson's today after posting some incorrect information on the first and second post of this blog! Apologies to all readers and Grensons. The G lab Amy style is a limited edition and produced in the UK. The G Two Emily styles are produced in their partner factory in India. In my quest for a stylish sustainable brogue I may have to go with the G Lab Amy option which is technically not quite a brogue if I want to avoid the carbon footprint! Grensons have kindly offered to send me an image of a brand new style that is made in the UK, so watch this space :)

Here's the story of how they make their shoes. Slowly it seems. (Words from www.grenson.co.uk) And additionally an explanation of what styles are made where. www.grenson.co.uk/en_gb/shoe-options

Grenson shoes are "Goodyear Welted", a process invented in the 1800's in England that is a time consuming way of making shoes, but means that the product lasts longer than any other type of shoes. It also means that the shoe can be re-soled many times over making them a wonderful investment.
There are 4 main departments connected with manufacturing within a footwear company and the components follow a progressive route through each of these departments to produce the finished shoes. The departments are, Clicking, closing, Lasting/Making, Finishing/Shoe Room. From start to finish will take around 3 weeks to make top quality Goodyear welted shoe whereas in cheaper shoe production the rule of thumb is often that if it cannot be made in 5 minutes it won't be profitable!
