Made In Britain - Part One

Since reading and reviewing Tansy E Hoskins book "Stitched Up, The Anti Capitalist Book of Fashion I have been somewhat absent from blog posting!  Largely due to making the decision to design, develop and source for my new fashion label. Three months in and I am faced with many challenging aspects, leaving me asking, will I ever get this label off the ground?
But then it was never going to be easy.

The story so far.....

I am passionate about clothes that have a season-less quality about them, styles that transcend time. Versatility and value per wear are at the heart of my vision, this is the essence of my collection. Who  makes the clothes I wear and produce are central to my values, for that reason and because I want to invest in British manufacturing, I am making my collection in Britain. My career long interest in innovative techno textiles is at the core of my collection, specifically recycled fabrics which are breaking into the market and will be a game changer once the true potential of this new technology is realised.  I have chosen to digitally print as it's far kinder on the environment than traditional printing methods  All the above comes at a cost, but it will be a "True Sustainable Cost"
The brick wall I have come up against is the challenge of not being able to meet minimum quantities for fabrics, and the availability issue for the recycled dress weight fabric mid way through my sampling procedure. While this is a real blow, I am determined to find a way.

What now.............?

Have faith! Know that somehow I can find a way to use the recycled fabric and overcome key price point challenges.
And I keep reading Rudyard Kipling's If Poem

"If you can keep your head when all about you.
 Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
 If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
 But make allowance for their doubting too;
 If you can wait and not be tired of waiting,
 Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
 Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
 And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
.......................

In the meantime feast your eyes on the prints I have been inspired by for S/S15
